BIG are going spiral

The watchmaking company of the luxurious swiss brand Audemars Piguet assigned to the architectural firm BIG the creation of an extension to its historic headquarters in Switzerland, after winning the relevant competition.
‘La Maison de Fondateurs’, as the new Museum is called, hosts exhibition spaces, galleries and workshop areas, all in association with the watchmaking company and its philosophy.
The famous designers team have proposed a playful landform, more like a sculpted piece of structure rooted in the land, in the shape of a spiral.
The form that, in our opinion reminds of the mechanisms of a watch, create interesting views as the volume of the museum are only partially revealed through glass curtain walls.

The daylight as much as the circulation within the building are elements of the architectural concept. Moreover, bold interactions are encouraged by the designing scenario -both with the interior and the exterior as the same with the the other guests and exhibits- creating conditions for a unique experience of the visitor.
