Prize-Winning Project “Illuminated Balloon Bench” by Ariadni Parisi.
The Illuminated Balloon Bench appears to be lifted from the one side by a single balloon. The concept of the proposed bench is based at the idea of balance, levitation and loss of gravity. A successful illusion is created that a substantial heavy concrete bench is lifted and almost suspended by mere one delicate balloon. In reality the bench is balanced at this angle not by a balloon of course but by a hidden underground concrete base which acts as a counterweight. The effect though is really realistic, vibrant and playful.

At night the balloon shape object is illuminated and used as a public street light. The Illuminated Balloon Bench can be placed in every public space, walkways, squares, public parks. It is functional, as it can be used as a resting spot and also as a street light, but meanwhile is also a piece of public art. Three shapes of Illuminated Balloon Benches are suggested. Each one of them has a unique shape and it could be placed alone in a public space or all of them as a group of flying balloon benches. It has a playful and fun nature.
This Bench defies the laws of gravity. This idea of lose of gravity is emphasized by the selection of materials of the bench. Although it is made of concrete, which is a heavy and durable material, only one balloon is enough to lift it.
